The Intelligence Hidden Inside Good Questions
Good Morning.
We're taught from an early age that intelligence is demonstrated by having the right answers.
School reinforces the idea. Tests ask questions. Students supply answers. Knowing the answer usually means you've learned the material.
Outside the classroom, the relationship between questions and answers becomes more complicated.
A difficult problem rarely arrives with instructions telling us exactly what needs to be understood. We have to figure that out ourselves.
That's where questions become important.
A good question can expose an assumption, narrow a complicated problem, or reveal a possibility that hadn't been considered. It determines where our attention goes and what information we begin looking for.
Even small changes in wording can send thought in a different direction.
Consider the difference between asking, Why isn't this working? and Under what conditions does this work?
The problem is the same. The search has changed.
Researchers studying learning have found that generating questions can deepen understanding and help people recognize gaps in their knowledge. Asking a question requires us to examine what we know, identify what's missing, and decide where to look next.
You can often see this in people who understand a subject deeply.
Listen closely and you'll notice the questions they ask. They know where uncertainty remains, which assumptions deserve examination, and what additional information could change the picture.
Knowing a great deal is one form of intelligence.
Knowing what to ask next may be another.
Longevity
Every day in The Long Game (below), we look at one small piece of how we age: a question, a habit, a finding from the research. The Longevity Index is the bigger picture: a 4-minute personalized assessment across six science-backed pillars including nutrition, movement, sleep, stress, social connection, and purpose. You'll get a score, see where you're strong, and see where there's room. It's free, private, and built on peer-reviewed research.

Today's Question
What did you eat this week that your body actually thanked you for?
Not the meal you felt you should have eaten. The one that left you feeling good a few hours later, instead of sluggish or hungry again. Those are worth noticing, and repeating.
Nutrition is one of the six factors that shape how well we age. The Worthyest Longevity Index measures all six in 4 minutes. Yours, personalized. Get my score→

The People Who Notice First
We don't always notice ourselves becoming different. Other people do.
Change is hard to see when you're living inside it. A little more confidence, less patience for something you once tolerated, a new way of talking about the future. To us, each change arrives one day at a time. To someone who hasn't seen us in a while, the difference can be obvious.
Sometimes the people around us are holding a before-and-after picture we can't see ourselves.
Pass It On
Sometimes a thought, an idea, or a perspective connects at just the right time. If something here feels like it might resonate with someone you know, share it with them.
