Before Summer Goes
Good Morning.
There comes a point near the end of summer when you realize the season has started packing up.
The evenings get a little shorter. The light looks different. Stores begin putting out things for a season you're not quite ready to think about.
And suddenly, the ordinary parts of summer feel worth noticing again.
Dinner while it's still light outside. An open window. A walk after sunset. Peaches that actually taste like peaches. Sitting somewhere longer than you planned because nobody is particularly eager to go inside.
We spend so much of the year looking forward to seasons that it's surprisingly easy to miss them while they're here.
Summer isn't over yet.
There are still warm evenings left, still things that taste better outside, still a little time to do whatever you kept saying you wanted to do this summer.
Maybe the best way to say goodbye to a season is simply to notice it before it leaves.
Have a great weekend.
Longevity
Every day in The Long Game (below), we look at one small piece of how we age: a question, a habit, a finding from the research. The Longevity Index is the bigger picture: a 4-minute personalized assessment across six science-backed pillars including nutrition, movement, sleep, stress, social connection, and purpose. You'll get a score, see where you're strong, and see where there's room. It's free, private, and built on peer-reviewed research.

The Long Game
One small thing for a longer life
Short sleep can leave you eating more the next day.
In a controlled study, healthy adults who had their sleep restricted to four hours consumed about 300 more calories a day than when they had nine hours available for sleep. They also gained more weight and accumulated more fat around the abdomen. Researchers believe insufficient sleep can alter eating behavior in ways that make it easier to consume more than we otherwise would.
Sleep is one of the six factors that shape how well we age. The Worthyest Longevity Index measures all six in 4 minutes. Yours, personalized. Get my score →

When Healthy Choices Deserve a Second Look
Foods that seem wholesome aren't always as straightforward as they appear. This collection looks at one supposedly healthy choice cardiologists question, what food safety experts actually do when washing produce, and why doctors recommend being more cautious about a particular food after 60.
This Is the Worst ‘Healthy’ Food for Heart Health, Cardiologists Say

Final Note
This is what we leave you with. A thought to end the day, carry in your pocket, or come back to later. Nothing big. Just something to reflect on.

The People Who Really Listen
Listening is one of the few skills that becomes more noticeable the less someone talks.
We tend to think good conversation requires having something interesting to say. But the people we remember as great listeners often do something different. They leave enough room for us to finish a thought, resist turning every story into one of their own, and ask the question that shows they were paying attention.
You rarely leave those conversations thinking about how impressive the other person was.
You leave thinking about how unusually easy it was to be heard.
Pass It On
Sometimes a thought, an idea, or a perspective connects at just the right time. If something here feels like it might resonate with someone you know, share it with them.
